For Unit 3, we are going to create arguments around a debate about the adderall abuse by college students. It appears that one of the latest trends in college life is popping prescription drugs to enhance academic performance. Students are increasingly consuming Adderall to heighten concentration during study sessions, risking serious side effects and unknown long term consequences for this behavior. According to recent studies, the rate of non-medical prescription drug use is greatest among students attending colleges. Many students report exaggerating or falsifying symptoms to obtain an Adderall prescription. Some parents are even playing a role in helping their children obtain these medications wrongfully. Some students will even go so far sas to use the drug for recreational use and for dieting. In our study we are going to debate against the use of Adderall by college students who don’t have ADHD.
-For our first argument we are going to develop an informational flyer explaining the cause and effect of the abuse of adderall among college students.
-For our second argument we are going to write an article for a magazine that appeals to the college student age group.
-The third argument we are going to create is a humorous cartoon that reflects the abuse of adderall among college students.

Topic
My topic for Unit 2 will be John McCains choice to choose Sarah Palin for Vice President. I want to use this because I think I will be able to find a lot of information about this topi and I think I will learn a lot from what I find. I will use primary sources such at television and articles about this topic for my analysis and argument. This election is so important, I look forward to understanding more about this topic.

Unit 2 Possible Topics
For Unit 2, I am thinking about using John McCains choice of Sarah Palin as my topic. I am thinking I would use this because I would be able to find many primary sources about this topic. Also, Sarah Palin is the topic of many talk shows and blogs right now. It will be interesting to find things that support her and do not support her. There are many SNL skits and blogs about this topic which would also help in my research.
I was also thinking, however, about doing something historical like Roe v. Wade or civil rights movement. All these things seem to be very good research topics to me because I would be able to learn a lot as well as making an argument and a rhetorical case study. I could also find many things on these historical movement that would support and not support these topics. Although it would be hard to find blogs and things of that matter there are other things I could look for like personal stories or even a re-enactment of something of big significance like these.

3 Questions on Unit 2 Assignment
For Unit 2, conducting a rhetorical case study is not going to be easy. I first need to find something that I can write about, I have no idea what I am going to write about. When I find what I am going to write about, I do not know what the Toulmin method is, so I want to learn that so I can actually do my assignment. Lastly, I do not know what kind of evidence can be found about my subject. It sounds impossible to have evidence on television so I am leaning towards writing evidence but that does not seem easy because the internet would have a lot of secondary sources.

HK's Public Space Analysis
This analysis of the UGL is very good! I love how she brought together many different characteristics about the library; like the couple cuddling, the people gathering and talking, a girl sitting with her feet on the table. It reminds me somewhere I would go like my very own library or maybe the Holiday Inn! I also like how she made references to the Holiday Inn and how the UGL reminded her of the Holiday Inn. I felt she did a good job of addressing different topics of what the UGL had and how it was so useful to all the students who are communters and how live on campus. All the tools that are accesible to students at the UGL was nice to hear that she knew because some students don't know all the accessiblilty that they have on their college campuses. What I would have liked to see more of was how the UGL had helped her because she is a student and maybe how she uses the UGL and how well she does in school because of all the resources and such there.

Chosen Space for Unit 1
For my chosen space I wanted to choose a place where I love, feel comfortable, and go a lot. I choose Starbucks Coffee as my chosen place. I probably spend every morning drinking a Starbucks coffee or a double shot espresso from the BLUU made by Starbucks. If I may say so, I feel Starbucks is taking over the coffee business. Starting off in Seattle Washington, it started with just a simple idea and has grown worldwide. The "simple" idea has now grown to drive-thru's, pastries, sandwiches, breakfast, new drinks and promotions just about every time you are in a Starbucks.
Starbucks are in airports, bookstores, schools, even cruise ships. Starbucks is simply just the best! What I love most about Starbucks is the customers. A long line out the door, small children are carried in by mothers and fathers who order them hot chocolate, while young adults and college students order frou frou drinks and frapachinos, business men and women can order their black coffee, and seniors can get their black coffee or cappachino all in a matter minutes. Morning rushes and hectic people trying to get to work or school does not keep Starbucks from keeping its cool and calm atmosphere. Employees always happy early in the morning or late at night, good music playing quitely to not bother the customers, free wi fi for those who need to work or study, couches and tables for those who would like to read or work.
Everywhere you go these days, Starbucks merchandise seems to be on sale. Inside a store there are cups, grinded coffee, coffee beans, coffee makers, even soy milk! It is like a mini grocery store! It amazes me everytime I am in Starbucks whether there is a new drink, new cups, or even a new drive thru Starbucks is always reinventing themselves to make it a better place for customers.

Letter of Introduction
Hi! My name is Brittany Todare. I am originally from Scottsdale, Arizona. I moved to Fort Worth to attend TCU with 1,200 strangers last year. I am now a sophomore, working on a degree in Fashion Merchandising and a double minor of Business and French. Moving to Fort Worth was one of the best decisions I have made. The education I am getting and the people I have met here has been a blessed experience.
In this course, I really plan to expand my writing. In high school, I was never the student to excel in English class. I love to read but writing has never been my forte. Yes, I have to take this class because it is required but I look forward to getting a lot out of this course like how to make an argument and excel in writing.
Other than school work, I enjoy writing in a journal and keeping a diary. I love to write poetry as well. I feel journaling is a great way to express myself and put down feelings on paper. I also love to text on my blackberry and write emails. Family members and I love to email each other back and forth from Arizona to Texas to catch up on the week and things going on in our lives.
I like the objective of this class and look forward to learning more about argument. As I read the first chapter in "Everything's an Argument", it is amazing to think that everything I do in my life is an argument. When I think of an argument, I think of debate and something negative. But in actuality, an argument in writing or in this class is not necessarily a negative thing. From this class I look forward to seeing that an argument is not negative, it is simply just a way of living.
I have read and agree to the terms of the syllabus.
