Chosen Space for Unit 1

For my chosen space I wanted to choose a place where I love, feel comfortable, and go a lot. I choose Starbucks Coffee as my chosen place. I probably spend every morning drinking a Starbucks coffee or a double shot espresso from the BLUU made by Starbucks. If I may say so, I feel Starbucks is taking over the coffee business. Starting off in Seattle Washington, it started with just a simple idea and has grown worldwide. The "simple" idea has now grown to drive-thru's, pastries, sandwiches, breakfast, new drinks and promotions just about every time you are in a Starbucks.
Starbucks are in airports, bookstores, schools, even cruise ships. Starbucks is simply just the best! What I love most about Starbucks is the customers. A long line out the door, small children are carried in by mothers and fathers who order them hot chocolate, while young adults and college students order frou frou drinks and frapachinos, business men and women can order their black coffee, and seniors can get their black coffee or cappachino all in a matter minutes. Morning rushes and hectic people trying to get to work or school does not keep Starbucks from keeping its cool and calm atmosphere. Employees always happy early in the morning or late at night, good music playing quitely to not bother the customers, free wi fi for those who need to work or study, couches and tables for those who would like to read or work.
Everywhere you go these days, Starbucks merchandise seems to be on sale. Inside a store there are cups, grinded coffee, coffee beans, coffee makers, even soy milk! It is like a mini grocery store! It amazes me everytime I am in Starbucks whether there is a new drink, new cups, or even a new drive thru Starbucks is always reinventing themselves to make it a better place for customers.

Starbucks is a great choice for your analysis! I chose Eurotazza (a small coffee shop off camp bowie). I think that coffee shops in general make pretty bold arguments about their purpose and their intended audience. It will be interesting to see what the differences are between your analysis of a major coffee chain and mine of a less well known coffee shop.

I think that you will have a lot of analysis from Starbucks because all of the diversity at the store. Starbucks are truly everywhere and all manners of people go in to get coffee. The lines are always long and I will be interested to see the audience you pick out because I think the audience could be just about every human.

I like your choice of Starbucks. It will be interesting to see all the different aspects it has to offer. Obviously, from the fact many people love their product, but it also offers many other things such as a place for people to meet or even just hang out. I agree with the fact that the time of day could add another element to the argument.

You can't go wrong with choosing Starbucks. But the fact that Starbucks stores are everywhere might not be the best business plan. In my city there is literally a Starbucks on every corner and not only is it losing its appeal, but its caused several shops to close because they've built too many. I just realized this is irrelevant to what you have to talk about in your essay.

Hi Brittany,
You've chosen a great place for your rhetorical analysis. You have a compelling command and understanding of the space. I was wondering though if you should pick just 1, particular Starbucks for your analysis. You mentioned getting a Starbucks drink every morning from the BLUU-- perhaps that could be the specific space you analyze. I offer this as a suggestion only because each, individual location has certain characteristics--which you can, of course, apply to the nationwide chain-- but those specific details are really what help you as an author make meaning in an analysis. We can talk more about this if you'd like-- let me know if you have any questions.
